The purpose of this web site is to be a portal to research and writing about neighborhoods.  It will always be a work in progress.  Initially the projects associated with the web site will be focused on the city during the lifetime of its first accurate cartographer, Thomas Poppleton,  and on selected neighborhoods for which there is an  expressed interest at the Tuesdays sessions with Ed at the Baltimore City Archives. The neighborhoods so addressed will be listed on this site and searchable by name on http://virtualarchive.us.

The portal will offer storage for research and writing about neighborhoods along with an introduction to tools that will facilitate web-based research on places and people.  For updates on progress in constructing the servers and making the research tools available, consult: http://virtualarchive.us
